Crisco® Announces Search For The Best All-American Family Pie Recipe

*************************************************

ORRVILLE, OH (November 8, 2004) - Since 1911, Crisco®, the leading shortening and cooking oil brand, has been part of family recipes handed down from generation to generation. Now, the makers of Crisco invite home bakers across the nation to team up with their favorite little ones -- sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces or nephews -- and enter their best dessert pie recipe in the second Crisco All-American Pie Recipe Contest.

“Baking with mom or grandma creates memories that we cherish as adults,” said Maribeth Badertscher, communications manager, The J.M. Smucker Company. “We want to encourage people to pass on the joys of the kitchen to the children in their lives, and what better way to engage children in the creative baking process and start your own traditions than with pie, a timeless all-American dessert.”

Teams of adults and children (each team consists of one adult and one child; team members must be related or adults must be legal guardians; children must be between the ages of 8 to 13) around the country are invited to submit their original dessert pie recipe. Recipes will be accepted between November 8, 2004 and January 31, 2005 and may be entered into one of five categories: 1) apple 2) fruit/berry 3) sweet potato/pumpkin 4) chocolate and 5) citrus. Five finalist teams will win a trip to New York City in March where they will prepare their pie and compete in a live judging event. The grand prize winning team will be awarded $5,000.
