Gander Mountain Corsicana donates prizes for youth fishing tournament

ATHENS, Texas—Six happy youngsters walked away from the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center June 4 fully equipped to go fishing, thanks to Gander Mountain of Corsicana.

Gander Mountain donated the prizes for the annual National Fishing Day tournament held at TFFC. Attendance at the event was 963, and more than 150 fish were caught from TFFC’s stocked casting pond and weighed in. Three winners were declared in each of two divisions, catfish and bluegill.

Other sponsors of the event included Athens Wal-Mart Supercenter, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Skeeter Boats, Dallas Woods and Waters Conservation Club, Freshwater Angler’s Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center offers free fishing (all bait and tackle furnished) with no license required Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors and $3.50 for children ages 4 through 12.
