Opera In Texas: November, 2011

Recommended Posts

  1. If you have not seen it, there is one performance left of the Dallas Opera's Lucia di Lammermoor, the intense Donizetti work based on Sir Walter Scott's story of women acting as reluctant pawns, submitting to the dynastic quests of other men.
The show is Sunday, November 6th at the Winspear Opera House at 2pm, and I always recommend showing up an hour early for the pre-performance discussion about the show. [Dallas Opera Information & Tickets]
  2. The Houston Grand Opera is staging Beethoven's one and only opera Fidelio on November 1, 5, 10 and 13. The November 13th show is a Sunday matinee starting at 2pm. [Houston Grand Opera Information & Tickets]

  3. Last, but not least, the Austin Lyric Opera is performing The Magic Flute at the Long Performing Arts Center November 5, 11 and 13. This Mozart opera is filled with beautiful music. It's extremely accessible to everyone. A great first timer's opera, there's lots of fantasy in it and it's fun for adults and kids. Tickets start at just $19 and I believe me when I say that there's not a bad seat in the entire house. [Austin Lyric Opera Information & Tickets]

Treat yourself this month and go see an opera!
