Does Anyone Know About This Piece ? Seems Early

Recommended Posts

Hi - Does anyone know anything about this piece? It seems early and i can't seem to find it. It is a native american face and has the look of a bennington or stoneware type pottery. stamped frankoma of course. measures about 4.25" tall. must be a wall hanging piece. how old is it ? is this an early or rare piece and any idea of value ?

:)

Thanks so much

You have a Smiling Indian Mask. ID number is 186 and they were made around 1942. Book value is $1200 to 1500, although many Frankoma pieces are selling for less than book value. On the other hand, your piece is fairly rare and I don't see them often, so it could get into that range.

The only thing that confuses me is that the clay color doesn't look right for the early 40's. It's much darker and redder than I would expect. Is the photo an accurate representation?

hi - thanks for the information that is very helpful and greatly appreciated. I took the photo with my mobile phone and the backside is a little more red in the photo than in real life.
