Texas Sommelier Conference Votes For Best Sommelier

Exploring the delicious world of wine pointed to Austin sommelier June Rodil, who was named 2009 Texas' Best Sommerlier at the just completed fifth annual TexSom Conference over the Four Seasons Resort in Los Colinas.

In a grueling three-part wine examination involving service, blindtasting and theory, Rodil outperformed 20 of her peers. Along with winning the exciting title, Rodil received a scholarship of $2,000 and round-trip airfare from the Guild of Sommeliers Education Foundation tobe used for a Court of Master Sommeliers certification program. Additionally, she received scholarships the Wine and Spirits EducationTrust and Society of Wine Educators.

Rodil works at Austin's ultra-hip Uchi fish and fusion restaurant on South Lamar. Coming in at second place was Anibal Calcagno from Vic and Anthony's Steakhouse in Houston.
